Booking Through Thursday

Today's Booking Through Thursday meme question is:

"We’ve all seen the lists, we’ve all thought, 'I should really read that someday,' but for all of us, there are still books on 'The List' that we haven’t actually gotten around to reading. Even though we know they’re fabulous. Even though we know that we’ll like them. Or that we’ll learn from them. Or just that they’re supposed to be worthy. We just … haven’t gotten around to them yet.

What’s the best book that YOU haven’t read yet?"

Good question. I decided to pick a more current book that's all over the place, the 2008 Pulitzer Prize Winner, The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz. This book is getting rave reviews and touted by the bibliophiles of the world as the best thing since sliced bread, and a couple of times in the book store I've picked it up, thinking, "I have to read that. I'm not 'in the know' and 'well read' if I don't." However, something about the storyline just doesn't flip my switch and I keep putting it off.

It's so weird because I usually love stories that are just big character-fests with tons of backstory and not a lot of "action." But this one... I don't know what my deal is.

I haven't read it either. It is the storyline that hasn't made me go out and get it.

I've seen this book everywhere, too, but have yet to actually thumb through it. I'll have to check it out next time I'm out! :)

I bought Oscar Wao at the beginning of this year when I found out our town's bookstore was closing. I still haven't read it, but at least it's in my shelves when I do get around to reading it. You're a couple levels up on me even, because I have no idea what it's about, only that it won the Pulitzer and it's heavily wishlisted. I'll probably get to it in the next couple months, but I make no promises ;-)

I keep hearing about this book and think I need to get my hands on a copy (I prefer Pulitzer winners to Man Booker winners) and too have seen this book everywhere!

Am I showing my ignorance in saying I've never heard of Diaz's title before(although when I went on a search I *did* recognise the cover)?

It sounds looks like an interesting one (although Cameron on Goodreads obviously doesn't think so *grins*)

Anyway I hope you get to it some day soon.
Warmest
Rob

I have seen this around on the net, but haven't seen it in person. I agree with others--not sure the storyline really grabs me?! Hmmm...maybe someday!
