Somebody Else to Check Out

Wow, it's been awhile since I've posted... so sorry to all of the four loyal readers out there who check out the blog. Not as an excuse, but the middle of the month does tend to get a bit hairy at work with balancing the accounts. That was like the most lame thing I could have written, my cool factor just took a plummet when I referenced accounting. Oh, well, let's move on...

I recently "stumbled across" a blog (The Reader's Quill) that does good book reviews (I read literature blogs because I'm a nerd like that). I write "stumbled across" in quotes because it wasn't by chance that I found the blog; rather, the blogger's friend does a pretty good job of providing PR for her on various Twilight-related Facebook message boards.

I surfed over to check out her three-part review of Breaking Dawn and found her insights to be interesting and worth the read. She's worth your time to read if you appreciate someone who can simultaneously like a book, but have the ability to find flaws in it. I liked her style so well that I signed up to get her blog delivered via e-mail (a handy little feature that you all can do for my blog as well, if you're so inclined).

The very next email/blog post that I received was Part I of her review of City of Bones by Cassandra Clare. I hadn't read this particular book, but within two paragraphs I had to stop reading her blog--I knew I HAD to read this book (and didn't want to ingest the spoilers). I picked up the book at the library on Saturday (unsure whether I wanted to commit the $10 to purchase the paperback from my local big-box book retailer); I should have taken it as a sign that the book would be good--I had to go to three different branches of the Indianapolis/Marion County Public Library before I could find one with a copy on hand.

I started reading the book on Saturday (along with continuing my daily reading of 13 Ways of Looking at the Novel, finishing up White from The Circle Trilogy, and reading The Glass Castle for a class at school). I am stuffing this book into any little reading nook and cranny I can find, feaverishly reading because it's really that good. I'm a little under half-way through the book and there has already been major action (that starts pretty much on page 2), the blossoming of romances (that sets in relatively early as well), and betrayal of the deepest kind.

If you're a fan of either the Harry Potter or Twilight series, you'll enjoy this book. You might even find yourself saying, "Edward Cullen, what's so great about him?" If you've read the book (or are reading it right now), drop me a comment and let me know what you think. How does it compare to other series you have read?

I welcome her to come rifle through my trash... I keep rabid racoons hidden inside my trash can for occasions just like this.

(Reader's Quil, You're welcome... much deserved!)
