"Live" Blogging the Read-a-Thon

10:55 A.M. (EST)

Today is the 24-hour-read-a-thon. I started this morning a little after 8 a.m. (EST) with catching up on my reading of The Glass Castle and attended my Composition class where we discussed that and began work on developing the thesis for our Summary/Strong Response essays.

Now that class is over, I'm getting into The Sparrow, my monthly book club selection that is set to be discussed at the end of this month. I'm also going to drive over to the Borders where John Green's appearing today (2-4 p.m.) to pick up a copy of Paper Towns. I'm wondering if in the ~3 hours I have until said appearance if I can finish that whole book. We'll see.

I'll be editing this blog throughout the day as a sort of quasi-live blog of the read-a-thon activities happening in my neck of the woods.

I'm always interested in what other book groups are reading. It gives me ideas to take back to mine. We're doing Stumbling On Happiness for this month and Sickened next month -- a little stretch of nonfiction, which is a nice break from all the fiction we usually read.

I found The Glass Castle to be a good book--but so sad at times. I hope you were able to participate in the read-a-thon today.
*smiles and cheers*
