I'm going to cap off the month of June by giving the recap that's so justly deserved. Last month I'd put up 12 (with three pending) at the time of the 5 Minutes for Books' "What's On Your Nightstand?" Meme. This month I've got...
Books Reviewed in June: 9
Guys Write for Guys Read (Middle Grade/YA), Hannah's Dream (Literary Fiction), Hood (Commercial Fiction), Love is a Mix Tape (Nonfiction), Madapple (YA), North of Beautiful (YA), Something Rotten (YA), Scarlet (Commercial Fiction), and Stotan! (YA)
I think in the next week I should be able to finish at least two of these three outstanding library books: Something Wicked, Hero-Type, and The Iron Lance. (They're checked out from the library and they're outstanding to read... I've already started them, and they're good so far.)
Last time I posted I said I was going to aim to get A Prayer for Owen Meany and The Sunday Philosophy Club finished in June, but they've been eclipsed by library books and loaners that had due dates. They'll still be in the queue for July, along with:
The Island of Lost Girls - My book club selection for July
Middlemarch - My attempt to complete the "Beowulf on the Beach" summer reading challenge
Duplicate Keys and The Secret Life of Bees - My attempt to whittle down my TBR shelves
EDIT (7/6/09): I did finish Hero-Type, Something Wicked, and The Iron Lance in June, along with American Born Chinese. That brings that total for June books up to 13.

Would love to hear your thoughts on The Secret Life of Bees...I've been trying to decide whether or not I want to add that one to my reading list.
Great selections! I remember reading the Secret Life of Bees and just not wanting to put it down when it was time for bed. I stayed up and finished it, while holed away in the bathroom so as not to disturb my hubby! :)
You have some fun titles selected there! I have The Secret Life of Bees sitting on my shelf (still). Eventually?
Man, I love looking at book covers. Why is that? It makes me happy just seeing the little line up there.
Island of Lost Girls was pretty good. I just picked up the author's latest book Dismantled from the library today (sounds good). Enjoy!
Those look like some awesome choices! Definitely some books I've perused in the past, so I'm curious to see what you think of them all. :)
You've got some great ones ... Owen Meany is one of my all-time faves; I'm jealous you'll get to read it for the first time :) Is the Jane Smiley new? I'll have to look into that ... Thanks for some great inspiration!
@Susan
Actually, the Smiley one is really pretty old (late 70's/early 80's, I think), one of her first novels, but it's new to me, so we'll see how it goes. Thanks for stopping by.
Thanks for visiting my blog. I also need to whittle my TBR pile. It is huge. But I keep going to the library and checking out all I can read in two weeks and the pile just keeps sitting there.
Secret Life of Bees was my last summer read. I really enjoyed the book, hope you do as well.
Happy Reading.
