Teaser Tuesdays

You know the drill: Should be Reading hosts the weekly "Teaser Tuesday" meme; so, we open our current read at random, select a two-setence quote from between lines 7 and 12, and post it here as a sample. What a tease I am.

This week's quote comes from Atonement by Ian McEwan (© 2001):
"Word came down that Lola, sedated by the doctor, was at last asleep, and the news provided temporary relief. Unusually, everyone had gathered in the drawing room where tea was taken in exhausted silence," (p. 165).
I'm not too far into this book, having just started it last night, but I immediately fell in love with Briony's descriptions of her writing process, the importance of her secrecy about the work until its completed, and her disappointment that her cousins (Lola included) were less than cooperative. I'm now into the section that is from her sister's perspective (which is a little bit harder for me to identify with), but the characters are sufficiently complex and their perspectives on the same situation so divergent that it creates complexity in "simple" events.

Leave a comment to let me know if you've read Atonement (and your impressions of how it compared to the movie). Also, you can link to your Teaser Tuesday (or post your teaser in a comment, you saucy little minx).

I love that atmosphere in the first book. So stifling.

I read the book. Well I read the first few chapters, then i saw the movie. I don't know if that was a smart move or not. I liked both equally, but then i knew what was going to happen at the end of the book.

I've never read Atonement. (Surprise, surprise!) But here's my quote from my Star Wars book that Kris is making me read, Dark Force Rising by Timothy Zahn.

"But Thrawn had been on the bridge, and had recognized immediately the unlikelihood that the Rebellion's strategists would have put such an important convoy under the protection of such a weak ship. And so, when the Bulk Cruiser's bays suddenly erupted with three full squadrons of A-wing starfighters, the Chimaera's TIE interceptors were already in space and swarming to the attack."

I haven't read it or seen the movie. Oh I love Star Wars. I read Dark Force Rising. Timothy Zahn is amazing.

Sabrina, That's why I was reading it... I totally want to see the movie because I have a major thing for James McAvoy, but also have a major thing about reading a book before seeing the movie adaptation. Such a conundrum.

Jamie, You're so dedicated to Chris that it's kind of endearing.

Ditto what Karen said! Haven't seen the movie yet, I'm a bit afraid it won't measure up (although I've heard great things about it).

Check out my Tuesday Teasers here.
